After having my breakfast, there came a knock at the door.
"Who could that be?" I thought to myself as I opened it.
There stood a tall man carrying a clipboard and holding a big envelope.

"Hello, can I help you?" I asked the stranger to which he replied
"Good morning, I have a package for you.
If you could sign beside the 'X' that would be great".

He held out the clipboard and I signed beside the 'X' and grabbed the envelope.
I said farewell and quickly went back inside eager to open it.
Once I did I realized my life was about to change dramatically,
I took a deep breath and tried to comprehend the contents.

I had barely finished reading when the phone rang, it made me jump.
There was a woman on the phone "is this James Niklaus?" she asked.
"Yes it is, but most people call me Jim, what can I do for you?".

"Good morning Jim. Have you received the paperwork we sent you?"
"Yes I did, but I'm a little confused who 'Jake' and Julie' are?
I've never heard of either of them".

"They were your aunt and uncle" she replied.
"Really? Wait, why did you say were instead of are?"
"It's been a few weeks since they passed but it's been hard to track you down. You might've noticed the invitation to come read the will yourself.
This will be the only way you can claim your inheritance"

"Is that what this ticket is for?"
"That will only get you to the first marker,
you'll have to follow the map on the back to get to the rest of them.
You have seven days to make it to the finish line,
everything you need is in the envelope.
Good luck Jim, I bid you farewell.

As soon as she hung up I started packing and getting ready to leave
when there came another knock at my door.

"Two visitors in one day... This is strange".

As I opened the door expecting to see the postman again,
I was surprised to see a gentleman wearing a fancy suit.

"I have come so you encounter no difficulties during your travel,
may I take the bag for you?"

The man was a lot older than me, so I decided to carry the bag out myself.

As I placed the bag in the trunk,
I took one last look at my house because who knows when I'd be back.
While driving, the man wouldn't really talk to me.
he was too focused on driving,
which I guess is a good thing but it was getting boring.

He kept saying "I hope we make it" or "Gotta make up time".
I knew where the airport was so I knew we had plenty of time to get there.
I guess when you get older;time moves faster or something.

While speeding a police cruiser approached behind us and flashed it's lights.
The man pulled over and I started panicking. I didn't know these people.

The man opened the window and held out a card.
The officer inspected the card and told us to follow him;
suddenly we had a police escort.

After another hour of driving,
we were approaching the exit that lead to the airport;
I was getting excited to board the plane.

We didn't turn like I'd expected, we kept driving straight.

I told the man "we missed the exit"
but he informed me we weren't even going to the airport.
Now I was confused "Where are we going?"

"Oh you don't know?
You didn't read everything in the envelope, did you?".
"Of course I did, (I was lying but played it off like I wasn't)
I just thought we were going to the airport first".

"We have finer means of transportation for you Mr. Niklaus,
one that only a few dozen people have access to".

"I bet it's a private jet, no a personal cruise liner, that would be awesome."
I thought to myself.

I was feeling overwhelmed with excitement.
Just a few hours ago the highlight of my day
would've been what I made for dinner.
Now, I don't know what's going to happen next.

Now that I thought about it, the driver didn't look like a normal driver,
he dressed like he worked for foreign intelligence agency or something.
Who were my relatives?

"It's not a boat, a plane, or a crane we're taking...
we'll be taking a train".

"I thought it was going to be something cool!
I've been on many trains in my life".

"Not this kind of train.
I've never been able to board and unfortunately I won't today".

As he finished saying this he honked at the police car.

The man drove into a dark tunnel on our right and the police officer kept driving straight and suddenly everything went dark.

Why had I never seen this tunnel before? I drive by here all the time.

"You may have guessed by now, that I'm not a normal cab driver.
If I told you who I worked for, you'd never have stepped in this cab.
We're almost at the station and you'll find out everything".

I started to panic a little bit; this sounded insane.
What did he mean I wouldn't have gotten in the cab?
What kind of gimmick was this guy trying to sell me? I was intrigued.
On the other hand, why would a run-of-the-mill nut-job have a police escort?

"Is it too late too get out?" I jokingly asked.

"I can't, we're already being watched,
if I alter the speed of the vehicle we'll be subjected to an investigation.
We're about to enter a top secret underground facility
with high speed magnet trains".

"Like the ones over... Wait, there are no magnet trains in North America".
"You're about to see one, look!"

We pulled into a giant underground station and sure enough there stood a magnificent train waiting to be boarded.
"It spans the whole country believe it or not".

I noticed the driver was just as fascinated as I was
with this train and that's when I realized something.
"Didn't you say you weren't boarding today, why not?"
"I don't have enough clearance but that reminds me,
you'll need this passport to board" he handed it to me.
"It contains the code-name you'll need for the next week"
"Codename?" I curiously asked.
"You'll understand soon enough
but you need to board now before they leave without you".

I grabbed my bag and was saying goodbye but I didn't even get his name.
I waved him down and he stopped.
"What's your name?" I asked.

“You can call me Woods” I knew that wasn't his real name but I just wanted a name to remember him by so I didn't question it.
“It was nice to meet you Mr. Woods, thank you for driving me”
I tipped my hat towards him signalling my respect.
“It was absolutely my pleasure, that's for sure.
I wish you all the best on your travels and enjoy the rails Mr. Niklaus”
he waved and left in a hurry.

As I watched him drive away I realized I had no idea where I was going.
When I stepped on the train I pulled out the passport and the man checked it.

I had expected something like Lance Spearfire or Bruce Strongbone,
but they had me registered as Mr. Earth.

It was interesting “why Mr. Earth?”  I thought to myself.

'Welcome to the MagnAmero Mr. Earth,
we've been expecting you”.

Mr. Earth boarded the train.

First thing I did when I boarded the train was call my work.
I forgot to do that.
